This Information Pertains to Summer 2024 - We Will Update This for 2025 in January
Summer is just around the corner and it’s time to start getting ready for the swim team! The swim team is open to members of Meadowlands, Laurel Oak, Sunset Hills, and Wallburg Pool. There will be five meets, as well as the annual League Championship Meet. Swimming in the meets is optional if your child does not wish to participate.
All practices and home meets will be held at the Meadowlands pool.
Practice schedule
Evening practices will begin on Monday, May 20th. All morning practices start on June 9th, once Davidson County Schools are out for the summer. Please note that the Monday and Thursday evening practices will start at 7pm while school is in session, but then they will move to 8pm after school is out for the summer.
The times have been set up to be as flexible as possible since summer can be quite busy and we know there are work, vacation and other commitments. We realize swimmers may not be able to make all the practices, but we encourage attendance at least 2 practices each week.

Ways to Register
· Click above at Register Online Here! (send payment to Venmo @swim4tsunami or mail a check as instructed in the online form)
· Attend an optional in-person registration event at Meadowlands Pool (Sunday, May 5th at 2pm and Saturday, May 11th at 2pm). At these sessions, you will also have the opportunity to ask questions of Sammie Love, our head coach, and try on swimsuits if desired.
Volunteers
Numerous parent volunteers are required at both home and away meets, as well as at the City Meet. We will need a representative from each family to volunteer at a minimum of 3 swim meets this summer – not having to pay someone to work these positions is part of what helps keep your registration cost as low as possible! Volunteer positions include timers, awarding heat ribbons, stroke and turn judging, ribbons, computer, team parent, clerk of course, parking, and concessions. (If all swimmers in your family are Jumpers, you are not required to volunteer, but we hope you will consider doing so).
Other information
We have made some changes this year, and we think they will make our team even better!
· Sunset Hills Community Club is joining us this year – welcome to Tsunami!
· Upon your recommendation, we are offering a discount for families with more than one swimmer.
· Also upon your recommendation, we are planning to let swimmers know which strokes they will swim at each meet on the day before each meet. We hope this will make your planning for meet days just a little easier.
· Coach Sammie and her staff will host weekly Skills Clinics at both Thursday practices. These practices will be a little different than the others in that they will focus on specific skills (flip turns, certain difficult aspects of a certain stroke, starting from blocks, etc).
Team members (except for Jumpers) must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted. Boys and girls will be entered in separate events in all age groups. The age groups are as follows:
Jumpers: 5 and up
Competitive groups: 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18.
All participants must swim within their age group (swimming up is allowed as needed for relays, etc). Age will be determined as of June 1st of that year.
The registration fee for the team this year will be $120 per swimmer, and there is a $10 discount for each swimmer beyond the first swimmer in each family. Included in the price will be practices with paid coaches, T-Shirt, racing cap, ribbons, and meet entry fees (including the League Championship Meet). Each swimmer will be responsible for purchasing their own swimsuit. Team swimsuits and additional swim caps are optional but strongly encouraged. Keep in mind that you must be a member of one of the participating pools to be on the swim team. There will be no refunds unless your child does not pass the swim test.
We welcome any questions you might have. Please use the Contact Us form below.
Dear Swimmers and Parents,
I am very excited to take over as Head Coach this summer for Tsunami Swim Team. I have been a competitive swimmer since the age of 6 and worked as a swim lesson instructor since the age of 13. The past two years I have been working as a USA certified Age Group Swim Coach and training under my own former swim coaches at High Point Swim Club. As a swimmer who grew up with our team I have many ideas and plans for this summer. I’d like to incorporate new training techniques and tools to better our learning experiences. As Head Coach I will be working with all age groups this summer allowing the chance to teach and meet every swimmer on the team. Most importantly though I look forward to creating a memorable and fun summer for all our swimmers.
-Samantha Love
